What's Yours?

"You do not invent your purpose in life, instead you discover it."  - Dayo Adefolahan If you own a Ferrari car and all you ever did was use it as a luxury vehicle, that's all it will ever be to you, a luxury vehicle. Put it on a race track and you'd be in awe of what it can do because it's being used to its fullest capacity. Purpose is the motivation behind every creation. You were created for a particular purpose. Go discover it! My Pastor's wife said as a lady, your purpose in life is not just to marry, bear your man's name, have his children and be a "kitchenette" or serve in the other room. I jokingly mentioned to the guy seated next to me that a lady might want to bear " Mountbatten-Windsor " just because 😂. I mean a lot of people would literally kill to be the girlfriend/fiancee/wife even concubine of any of the Princes of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland yeah? 😊 (I'm not entirely sure ...

THE COW VOICE

Image
It was a raining night, cold and frightening. I could feel the taste of Mother Earth on my tongue, and yes, this pain, this excruciating pain. Have I been hit by a truck? Or did “Sango” (god of thunder) decide to strike me? I held on to my lower abdomen, feeling as though my womb was about to explode. I really don't know; something's wrong. I'm screaming, but I can't hear my own voice, and no tears either. Earlier, I was sleeping, having one of those weird dreams with no image, just total darkness. It was a long day, and nights are always longer. We waited like we always do, as long as we could, but she always waits longer; she has no choice. Well, I'm done waiting. This 15-year-old body needs rest; everything is set. There shouldn't be any drama, so I thought. Hours passed, maybe not. Something shattered the front door—heavy, scared feet ran silently but with haste. I heard cow's voice. Are these Fulani boys back again? I stepped out, only to get h...

yesterSUNDAYS

Image
Growing up I had mixed feelings about Sundays. A reason was that my family attended a white garment church that closed really late. I mean we could still be in church by 3pm just taking offerings after which series of thanksgivings would follow. The part I loved however was that my dad usually gave my siblings and I a lot of money for offerings. I remember specifically that he would give each of us N20 mints and as the eldest child, I got more than my siblings. What I did then was to take two out of the five to ten N20 notes i.e N100 - N200 (I always took just two notes regardless of how much money I was given), to the puff-puff seller close to our church to break the money down to lower denominations so I could easily drop lesser amount each time we had to pay any of the offerings. I treated myself after service to ice-cream, sweets, biscuits and fried fish (you know those ones first coated with yam flour before frying... very yummy 😋), with the 'savings.' The oth...

OPERATION PYTHON DANCE toludaniel91@gmail.com When I first heard of "Operation Python Dance", I thought JetLi is back to spotlight with another hit movie because I felt it is only in JetLi movies that we get to see people fighting like a dancing Python. So I thought if any operation name should include pythons and dance, then it has to involve some sort of JetLi moves. I was flabbergasted when I heard another one called "Crocodile smiles". What kind of crocodile is that!? Maybe it has brain damage, because if a crocodile should smile at me, I would faint five times at once. Meanwhile, my mouth was left agape and my hands clenched when I learnt "Operation Python Dance" is a military exercise aimed at combating the security challenges in the South- East and is well equipped to deal with the rising cases of insecurity such as IPOB violent secessionist agitations, insurgency among others. Investigation into the membership of IPOB shows that...

LUNATICS

Image
Lunatic! The sound of that word can make one belch. When one walk the slums one will see tons of lunatics everywhere.  I was in a neighborhood one day waiting to get something done, then I saw this young man dressed in Lagos bin. He looked like he hasn't bathed all his life. To my surprise, he bought pepper from a shop and begged the seller to grind it for him to make stew.. I exclaimed!! a mad man buying pepper? But then after observing and making enquries from those in the neighborhood, I realised he was not entirely mad; Atleast, not yet.  After some days, the same mad man I saw buying pepper was seen in traffic begging for money. So I thought deeply "Nobody was born a lunatic, so how do people get mad?'  Now the idea of running mad is not just about some bad juju, because mad people are everywhere even places where juju is not recognised. There are different kinds of madness, it's diversified; there are typical mad people, these ones are entire...
